Auto-backup on your Mac

Point the Total Vault app at a folder on your Mac and new or changed files upload on their own, into the project you choose. Pause it, resume it, and see what's backed up.

01Install and sign in

  • In Settings → Desktop app, choose Download Total Vault for Mac and open the app.
  • Choose Sign in. Your browser opens Sign in on your Mac: check the account, then choose Authorize Mac.
  • Go back to the app to finish. Your Mac now shows under Connected devices, where Revoke disconnects it any time.

02Turn on Auto-backup

  • In the app, right-click the folder or project the files should go to and choose Auto-backup.
  • Pick the folder on your Mac to watch. You'll see Auto-backup on for it.
  • Everything in that Mac folder uploads into the one you chose, subfolders and all. From then on, new and changed files follow by themselves.

Plug in a memory card and the app offers to Upload it into a project. That's a one-time upload; Auto-backup is for folders you keep adding to.

03Pause, resume, cancel

  • Pause for an hour, until tomorrow morning, or until you resume. Nothing already sent is lost.
  • On a network in Low Data Mode, backup waits and picks up on a normal one.
  • Settings → Desktop app lists each folder with Pause, Resume and Remove.

04What the words mean

  • Backing up… the file is on its way.
  • Backed up ✓ all of it is stored, exactly as it is on your Mac.
  • Waiting for your Mac: the Mac is asleep or offline. It catches up when it's back.
  • Moved or renamed: the folder isn't where it was on your Mac. Choose it again.
